Eliza (Ship : 1817-1838) logbook abstract, 1817-1821.

The logbook abstract of the ship Eliza details a shipping voyage from Salem, Mass., to Gibraltar and Sumatra, Oct. 1817-Jan. 1821. The abstract does not continue while in port. The ship's home port was Salem; the owner was Stephen C. Phillips; the master and logbook keeper was William Osgood. The logbook includes mention of animals seen during the voyage.

William E. Osgood was born in N.H. in 1926. He had completed four years of high school and was working as a professional driver when he was inducted into the Army in 1944 at Ft. Devens, Mass. Osgood volunteered for the ski troops through the National Ski Patrol System. He was stationed at Camp Swift, Tex. and in Italy where he was assigned to the 87th Infantry Regiment, Company C.
